Bars in Punjab likely to get fee waiver

Chandigarh: A Punjab Group of Ministers (GoM) has decided to recommend to the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh waiver of annual license fee of the liquor bars proportionately for the months from April to September, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotels, restaurants and marriage palaces have been closed since March, 2020, due to which their owners are suffering heavy financial losses.

The representatives of Hotel & Bar Association and Marriage Palace Association met the GoM here on Monday, according to an official spokesperson.

After hearing their grievances, the GoM decided to recommend proportionate annual license fee waiver to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for his nod.

Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Housing & Urban Development Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Forests and Printing & Stationery Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot were part of the GoM.

The associations also requested that timings of Bars and functions should be increased till 10 PM. The GoM decided to take up the issue of extending timings in the next Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2020.
